The Order of Krasus
Information about the High Order of Mages.
The Basics
The Order of Krasus was established over 600 years ago, and since it's creation it has been the sole provider of training for Mages and Healers in Daeria. Once Mages and Healers have completed their training they remain a member of the Order, monitored by the Order to make sure they do not break the rules they vowed to keep.
Rules of The Order
The rules of the Order of Krasus are simple, and each Mage and Healer take a vow to abide by them when they begin their training at the age of 12. The vow consists of them agreeing not to use their magic to harm the innocent, and to never perform Necromancy.
Mages and Healers in training also have the rules of the school to follow, these include rules such as not running in the hallways, not using magic on each other, no bullying, handing homework in on time, etc.
Necromancy
Necromancy, magic involving the dead, is the only form of magic banned, after the devastation Lord Dagan Kerrick caused 60 years ago. It is impossible to stop Mages being born with this form of magic, instead the Order of Krasus binds the magic of any child born with Necromancy as a power. Binding a Mage's magic stops them from being able to access their magic. The Mage is then trained in their remaining power, whether it is their Major or Minor. A few Mages have tried to hide their Necromancy, and when caught they have had their magic bound completely, leaving them without any magic.
Training
Mages beginning their training at the age of 12, when they leave home and move to the Order of Krasus' school for Mages and Healers in the capital city of Breckton. Mages and Healers train until the age of 18, after that they are free to leave and do what they wish. Some former students travel, or return to their homes to help the local people. Others take up employment amongst the wealthy, and some choose to remain at the school to help teach the next generation.
The school of magic has a yearly intake of students beginning in the 4th month of Autumn. Classes are then divided by year (1-6).
Mages attend classes for their Major and Minor, as well as a class teaching them general spell work. In their 5th and 6th years there are also classes for warfare and strategy, and health care, to prepare Mages for when they leave the school.
Healers attend classes based on their specialisation, as well as classes on treating wounds, anatomy, herbology, childbirth and animal care. In their final two years of training Healers must also attend classes Battle Wounds, and warfare and strategy.
All Mages and Healers are requires to also take classes in mythical creatures and academic studies; mathematics, geography, history, reading and writing.
Teachers
There is a teacher for each type of magic, each form of healing, and each academic study. Each year has the same teacher for magic or healer, although there are several different teachers for academic studies as these classes are much larger. A yearly intake can sometimes yield one or no students for a form of magic or healing. In the cases where there is only one student, this student will still receive training from the teacher of that subject.
The School
The school of magic is a large building (picture here) with a clock tower, placed in the middle of some extensive grounds. The architecture is very decorative, with stained classed windows and statues of historical figures perched on the roof. There are three floors within the school; ground floor, first floor and second floor. There are a variety of classrooms, including several that are protected by spells to ensure no stray magic harms anyone as students practise. There is a large library stocking all the books and texts that students would ever need. A large hall attached to the kitchen provides food for all students and staff at any time of the day. There are study rooms, lavatories, a main hall for official events, officers for teachers, and an indoor area for exercise and games.
In the grounds of the school there are three smaller buildings, plainer in decoration and with two floors. These are the living quarters of the students (one building for each gender) and the teachers. Each room in the student's quarters contains three beds, and a desk for studying. There are two shared bathrooms, one on each floor. Students return to their family's residence during holidays.
Teachers can choose to have their own room or share a room with a friend or partner. Their rooms are more spacious, and where they keep their personal items. Their academic belongings are kept in their offices. Most teachers have a second residence, either in the city of Breckton or their family's residence.
Uniform
All Mages and Healers wear full length black robes, with a crest on the left hand side of the chest. The crest represents their power so that others can easily recognise them if in need of their help. Students that are currently in training wear different colored robes with a crest. The colour of their robes depends on their year of training; grey for first years, golden yellow for second years, dark green for third years, navy blue for fourth years, teal for fifth years and red for sixth years.
Ruling Council
The Order of Krasus is ruled by the Ruling Council, led by the Mage Lord and Master Healer. There are three other members of the Ruling Council; Randolph Stern (Mage), Michaela Harris (Mage) and Carlton Wallis (Healer). The council chooses new teachers, oversees the Order, hands out punishment, approves applications for magic users who wish to join the army, and other such official business. Some of the Council are also teachers at the school of magic.
Mythical Creatures
Mythical Creatures such as dragons, unicorns, and basilisk, do exist. They are hidden from sight by magic, although magic users learn how to see them during their training. These creatures cannot be harnessed for one's personal use, however, the hair of a unicorn or the scale of a dragon has it's own magical properties. Mages and Healers use how to use such items in their magic or healing.
