Education

Education means something different for each of the Races.

Imperials

In Imperial society there are three forms of education; war, magic and scholarly pursuits. Anyone able, no matter what their social status, is welcome to study war or magic. When it comes to scholarly pursuits though, social status does make a difference. Only the nobles are educated in scholarly pursuits, and most peasants can not even read or write. Merchants know how to read, write and use arithmetic, as these are needed in their profession.

There are no schools in Imperial society, and Nobles and Merchants learn from private tutors when they are children. Only Mages and Healers attend a school, where they are trained to use their magic and also schooled in scholarly pursuits. [Please see the Order of Krasus for more information.]

Celts

The Celts have always been a simple folk, and for many decades for them education was teaching your children what they needed to know for adulthood. Parents taught their children how to read, write and count, and passed on the knowledge of their profession. Most importantly they taught them how to survive, and how to raise and protect a family. In recent years more scholarly pursuits have become popular with the younger generations. Where there were one a handful of philosophers (intellectuals and thinkers), there are now more, and they teach any Celts who wish to learn. There is only one school at the moment, and that is in the Capital of Corrick.

Elves

The Elves have never been against learning, and all children learn all they can from their extended family. This includes ways to communicate, arithmetic, history, geography, magic, cooking, first aid, defence/offense, tactics, communicating with the deities and spirits, and learning about the world around them. All Elves begin by learning something about each of these topics, and as they grow older it becomes evident where their strengths and weaknesses lie. Many Elves often travel to seek the tutorage of an elder Elf in subjects they have a talent for.

Protectors

All education amongst the Protectors takes place in their Clans. They learn what they need to know to survive, and the history of their Clan. When they come of age they are assessed by their Clan Leader and he/she decides what path their education should take. For example, those who are skilled at hunting train to become hunters for their Clan, while those who are skilled in magic learn how to use it. The Protectors consider the history of their Clan and Race to be the most important information they have, and so they do not follow the same scholarly pursuits as other Races.
