Overview
The Celts are a simple folk, quite the opposite of their Imperial neighbours. Some are farmers and warriors by trade, only having knowledge of war and survival. The younger generations have become more diverse, but the elder Celts remain stuck in their ways. Celts are known for their stubbornness, which is probably why men and women are at equal standings in their society; neither would willingly back down! Despite being simple and less extravagant, they are intelligent and are loyal to the bone. They are firmly against magic, believing it to be unnatural for anyone other than the Gods to have such power. While the Celts do not worship nature as the Elves do, they are adept at surviving in the wilds and are not averse to working in all forms of weather.
Society
Women and men are considered equal in Celtic society, with either gender ruling lands or running the family. This is reflected in any profession, including their warriors. It has been this way for centuries, and Celts find it strange to have it any other way. There are also no distinct social classes in Celtic society. The only distinctions sometimes awarded to people are by rank or by family line.
Physical Appearance
The Celts are pale haired, ranging from blondes and golds, to red with pale skin bronzed by the sun. Stocky builds are common, especially amongst the men who work the land. The most distinguishing physical feature of the Celts is their tattoos. At the age of 18 each Celt chooses their profession as an adult. Before continuing or beginning their training, each Celt receives a tattoo in their 'Coming of Age' ceremony. This tattoo differs for each profession, for example;
Warriors - Wear the crest of their family proudly on their faces.
Guards - A black raven on their forehead.
Commanders - When promoted to Commander they receive a set of stripes on their chest.
Priests/Priestesses - A swirl pattern in the colour of their chosen deity on their right cheek.
Physician - A circular pattern on their hands.
Hand Maidens - A design below their collar bone.
Entertainers - Usually a design around their ankles, legs or upper arms.
Crafters - People that use their hands to craft things have markings on their hands and lower arms.
[Other tattoos not mentioned may be designed by players as long as they do not conflict with the ones above.]
Relationships & Family
Heterosexuality is the dominant sexuality in Celtic society, although homosexuality does exist. It is something that takes place in private and is not discussed openly. The Celts marry for love, although there have been a few rare occasions where marriage has been arranged. In these cases it is usually done for an important reason, and both parties are willing participants of the arrangement. Marriage is binding, and adultery is a crime in Celtic society.
Magic
The Celts are against magic, and as such do not believe they have any magic abilities. However, the physical strength and agility of their Champions is above average, and is due to a passive form of magic that some Celts are born with. This form of magic is inert, and cannot be used in any way, it simply gives the bearer more physical power, such as strength or agility. The Celts are unaware that such magic even exists, they just believe it is a natural ability honed by practise.
Warriors
There are four ranks of Celtic warriors; Champions, Soldiers, Archers and Scouts. The Champions are the most powerful warriors the Celts possess, and a Celt can only become a Champion after passing a series of trials. Many fail the trials, but those that pass are deemed for greatness. Champions are physically more powerful than other warriors, and more skilled in weapons and strategy. Soldiers are the bulk of the Celts army, fighting with broad swords and axes. They lack the passive magic of the Champions, as well as their skill for strategy. The Celtic Archers are well skilled with a variety of bows, and have proven to be a formidable defence in past battles. The Scouts are the lowest rank of the Celtic army, existing to scout out land, warn of the enemy and provide a small form of defence before the rest of the army arrives.
Other Races
Their strong dislike of magic users proves to me a problem when associating with all the other Races of Azzaria. The Celts tend to view the Imperials as weak and fluffy, indulging themselves and hiding behind magic rather than fighting with their bare fists. They also find the patriarch Imperial society and the matriarch Elven society restrictive. The Celts have had the most dealings with the Protectors, and there is a large rift of distrust between the two Races. Neither side is innocent; the Protectors have been known to take Celts as slaves, and the Celts have raided the borders of Zazelle. It is unknown which Race originally started the dispute.
